Abstract
The 1967 Outer Space Treaty is the central legal instrument governingthe exploration, exploitation and use of outer space, including the Moon and othercelestial bodies in the universe. Along with the remarkable development of space scienceand technology, many States seek not only to exploit and use outer space, but also toestablish ownership over extracted space resources; however, such claims run counterto the principles of international law and may give rise to conflicts of interest amongStates. Therefore, strict compliance with national responsibilities and obligations andthe establishment of a general legal framework specifically regulating the exploitationand use of space resources has become necessary and inevitable today, especially withregard to the issue of establishing national ownership. Keywords: Space resources; Exploitation; Ownership claims; Principles ofinternational law; 1967 Outer Space TreatyDownloads
